Back to Color BreedingThe chart shown below shows in more detail how to create a Mavovlia, and can be used to understand how to create other varieties as listed here. It is important to use an appropriate white bird as explained on the Color Breeding page. This list shows 5 self-color birds and what they will produce when mated with an appropriate white bird. An appropriate white bird must contain the genes of the self-color bird you are mating it with.But that is not enough, you must also use an appropriate self-color bird that containes the color factor or genes of the bird you are trying to produce. I do this here because these combinations will not reliably produce any particular color - they will produce just about any color combination. And even if you get the color you are looking for, the offspring from these birds is totally unpredictable and will not maintain a pure color line.The explainations given for the above listed birds are based upon what others have told me. I would like to hear from other more experienced people and I would welcome any comments they have to offer in an effort to make this site more accurate and complete.
